Build of ARCore ‘stacks’ the power of the platform with a new API

The ARCore framework was released on Thursday and now there are tons of new builds for developers to download.

The framework has been heavily used by developers for building VR games, for example, as well as other types of 3D and 2D apps.

In an interview with Ars Technica, developer Marcus Caudill detailed the ARCore team’s plans for the platform.

“Our next release will bring support for the following APIs: Camera, Touch, 3D, Audio, WebVR, and more,” he wrote.

“We’re also planning to support more API levels in the future, like WebVR/HTC’s Oculus WebVR SDK, as we’ll have some more API level work to do to build this SDK for us.

This means that in the near future, we’ll also be able to provide support for more APIs, like GPU/UDP, and audio/visual output.”

Caudills added that he plans to have “at least a handful” of builds of AR Core available by the end of the year.

As for the next big thing for developers, Caudilling said he’s not sure exactly what.

“There are a lot of really exciting new APIs coming up in the next year that we are excited about,” he said.

“The ARCore community is a very interesting group of developers, so we’re hoping to get a lot out of the framework.

But I think for now, I would say that the ARKit SDK will be the next best thing for a VR developer.”

The ARKit project has been open for more than three years, with many developers already using the framework to build games.

“If you’re building VR apps for the HTC Vive, ARCore will be a good choice,” CaudILL said.
